Researchers:

Philippe Beauchemin
Title: New Advances in the Diagnosis, Monitoring and Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis
Dr. Philippe Beauchemin is a neurologist specializing in multiple sclerosis. He has worked at the CHU de Québec’s Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus and at the IRDPQ’s multiple sclerosis clinic in Québec City since 2014. After completing his medical studies and specialization in neurology at Université Laval, he did a subspecialization in multiple sclerosis and obtained a master’s degree in biostatistics and applied epidemiology from the University of British Columbia (UBC).

Reda Fazazi, MsC
Title: Correlation or Causation? EBV and MS: Meningeal Inflammation and Progressive MS
Reda Fazazi is a PhD student in molecular medicine working at Dr. Manu Rangachari’s laboratory at the CHU de Québec–Université Laval research centre. His research is funded by Quebec research funds. Reda is an active member of the MS Canada community, participating in MS Bike activities as well as the endMS Scholar Program for Researchers IN Training (SPRINT) and the endMS Summer School. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences and a master’s degree in molecular medicine at Université Laval, he is currently completing his doctorate in neuroimmunology, with multiple sclerosis as his main area of study. His areas of expertise are sex differences in MS and specific inflammation of the meninges.

Alexia Falle
Title: Sex Differences in Multiple Sclerosis
Holder of a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences, Alexia Falle is working toward a master’s degree in Dr. Manu Rangachari’s laboratory at the CHU de Québec–Université Laval research centre. Her research is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and focuses on sex differences in multiple sclerosis.

Luc Vallières
Title: Fighting Fire with Fire: Eliminating Autoantibodies in Autoimmune Neurological Diseases with Modified Antibodies
Dr. Vallières is a renowned neuroimmunologist with nearly 30 years of experience studying the immune mechanisms implicated in neurological diseases. His findings have led to the identification of key molecules responsible for recruiting immune cells into the nervous system and their role in inflammatory conditions. He is currently working on developing innovative drugs to fight autoantibodies, including a first-of-its-kind antagonist that could revolutionize the treatment of autoimmune diseases (see his YouTube video “Disarmed” Autoantibodies). His laboratory is a leading reference in several fields, including antibody engineering, bone marrow transplantation and super-resolution microscopy. He has given comprehensive and thorough training to many students of all academic levels, who now hold important positions in the biomedical field. An ardent supporter of scientific collaboration, Dr. Vallières received the 2023 event of the year award at the Centre des congrès de Québec for organizing the 16th International Society of Neuroimmunology congress.
