Summary: A new iteration of the Pathways to Cures Roadmap outlines current research priorities with the greatest potential to stop MS, restore function and repair damage, and end MS through prevention. The updated Roadmap takes into account new scientific advances in MS and provides recommendations to accelerate the development of MS cures through coordinated global efforts. This Roadmap is endorsed by MS organizations worldwide, including MS Canada.
Details: The original Pathways to Cures publication in 2022 was updated during a global summit of over 200 participants including MS researchers, clinicians, people living with MS, industry leaders, and funders from 15 countries.
The updated Roadmap outlines research priorities in the Stop, Restore, and End pathways, and identifies key factors to accelerate research progress, such as lowering barriers for global data sharing, enhancing collaboration, committing to sustained funding, engaging regulators and payers to ensure access to research breakthroughs, involving people with MS, and committing to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the global MS movement.
A Global Landscape Analysis was also completed to better understand the type of MS research currently funded by governments and MS advocacy organizations and to identify key areas of focus for MS research to optimize impact and speed progress.
Impact: The refined Pathways to Cures Roadmap will provide opportunities for greater global collaboration to accelerate scientific breakthroughs leading to MS cures.
